The Nile River Prophecy

“The river will be wasted and dried up” (Isaiah 19:5).

This prophecy is coming true in our days.

The river is the Nile river in Egypt. It has never dried up like this in history. The reeds and rushes will wither, and all the crops will dry up and be no more. The fishermen will mourn, and all who spread their needs on the waters will languish and be troubled. All the commercial businesses will be broken because the Nile river will dry up. How can this be?

The answer is the new Ethiopian dam built on the Blue Nile upriver from Egypt.

The dam is called the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) and it is the largest hydroelectric dam in all of Africa. Construction was started in 2011, filling the reservoir began in July 2020, and it produced electricity for the first time in February 2022. Although this dam project will be a great blessing to much of that region of Africa, the Egyptians are afraid that the waters of the Nile river will dry up and wreck havoc upon their country.

That fear is a distinct possibility.

In fact, Isaiah 19 indicates that God will use this disaster on the Nile to bring about the eventual repentance and salvation of the nation of Egypt in the future.

Amazing how a hydroelectric dam could be an instrument of salvation in the hand of God.
