HEADLINE: Former MegaChurch pastor declares that Small Church is the way to go!

RESPONSE: Took you long enough, now don’t miss the real issue.

This is what Francis Chan wrote in his new book entitled, Letters To The Church, “I believe God is leading a movement in this country toward simple, smaller gatherings, and I long to see this movement gain greater traction. I get so excited when I dream about the Church spreading in small, invigorating expressions that look and feel like the early church” (p. 181).

Good for you, brother Francis.

While you were 16 years building a megaChurch in California in the 90’s and the early 00’s, many of the rest of us were pastoring small churches and still are. Take it from me, there is nothing glorious about being small… or big. Don’t confuse size for correctness or genuineness or effectiveness. Only God can build a church, and He clearly doesn’t believe that one size church is better or worse than any other.

What He wants are churches that know who matters the most and that communicate that truth to everyone else. Big churches don’t matter. Small churches don’t matter. Only one thing matters the most, and that thing isn’t a thing. He is a Person.

It’s Jesus.

As long as that is true, then size makes no difference at all.
