An Ancient Warning for America

“He retains his flavor and his aroma has not changed” (Jeremiah 48:11).

This was a prophetic reference to Moab’s spiritual complacency in the time of Jeremiah.

The country had been at ease for a long time, peaceful and prosperous, and the land was undisturbed, fruitful and bountiful. The economy was booming, there were no enemies encroaching, and everyone believed that the good times would continue to roll. There was widespread confidence that the country had enough resources to overcome any problems that might arise.

This description of Moab sounds very familiar to us today, doesn’t it?

We also live in a country that retains its flavor, self-satisfied and confident. Of course, God’s favorite colors are red, white, and blue. We are prosperous and pat ourselves on the back for all our wonderful achievements. We give lip service to God and want His blessing so long as it doesn’t require any changes in the way we run our lives. Our priority is not spiritual in this nation, it is self-serving.

Let Moab be a warning to us because God allowed it to be destroyed.

“Come down from your glory and sit on the parched ground” (Jeremiah 48:18).

I hope it is not too late for us.
